To add new top-level domains to http-analyze, just install an up-to-date TLD file. Since release of http-analyze 2.4, some country domains have been changed and the new generic top-level-domains .asia, .tel and .travel have been added. See our List of Top-Level-Domains for more information.

Developement of http-analyze started in 1996 as a statistics tool for the former website, which was built by RENT-A-GURU®. Since other partners and customers also requested a server statistics tool, the first public version of http-analyze numbered 1.9 appeared in early 1997 and has been replaced since then by 2.5 today. http-analyze reached a high quality standard and reliable long-term operation on servers with just one website as well as on huge website farms.

The following documentation is publicly available for the free version of http-analyze. The free version does not include individual email support or any assistance in the use of the software. For commercial customers we provide installation support and other services.

Guide to the Statistics Report

This is a short guide to the statistics report generated by http-analyze. It explains the meaning of the terms used in the report for non-technical users. A must-read for every user of http-analyze!

http-analyze 2.4 Reference Manual

This is the Reference Manual for http-analyze 2.4. The document is for server administrators, who want to set up an analyzer configuration on a web server. It is also included in the distribution of http-analyze.

New Top-Level-Domain list for http-analyze 2.4 and older

To have http-analyze 2.4 and older recognize the new top-level-domains (TLDs) you must install an up-to-date TLD file, which can be downloaded here.

Technical Reports

Technical reports contain detailled information on how to configure, compile and set up the http-analyze software and its helper applications. Following reports are available:

  • A shell script to update statistics for web servers using http-analyze (PDF)
This report discusses the shell script run-ha, which calls http-analyze for all or some web servers on a hosting system.
run-ha is available in two versions:
run-ha version 1 for systems using the Netscape Fasttrack server,
run-ha version 2 for installations based on the Apache server.
  • A shell script to rotate the logfiles of web servers (PDF)
This report discusses the shell script rotate-httpd, which rotates (saves) log-files once per month for all web servers and calls http-analyze to »finalize« the statistics report for the previous month.
rotate-httpd is available in two versions:
rotate-httpd version 1 for systems using the Netscape Fasttrack server,
rotate-httpd version 2 for installations based on the Apache server.
  • Daily rotation and compression of logfiles with http-analyze 2.5 and ipresolve 2.0 (PDF)
This report discusses a rotation scheme where logfiles are rotated (saved) and compressed on a daily base. During this process, IP numbers are resolved into hostnames and the statistics report will be updated (requires http-analyze 2.5 and ipresolve 2.0).
The modified rotate-httpd is available here:
rotate-httpd version 3 for systems using the Netscape Fasttrack server
  • Configuration and compilation of the http-analyze logfile analyzer (PDF)
This report describes how to configure the source code and how to create a customized version of the http-analyze executable. Although this is not necessary in order to use http-analyze, sometimes people wants to compile an own version. This paper gives an overview over the available configuration options for http-analyze, ha-sort and ipresolve (the last two programs are available only for commercial licensees).
